Centenary Voices
Words from School Supervisor
As we embark on the preparation for our Centenary celebration in 2027, we give thanks to the Maryknoll Sisters and the Columban Sisters for providing our School with a solid foundation in the provision of an all-round Catholic education. We give thanks to the Christian Life Community in taking up the school sponsorship in July 1997. Marymount is very blessed to have the insight, wisdom and dedication of these three Sponsoring Bodies who have guided the school development at different points of time in our graced history. Changes in school sponsorship in 1978 & 1997 were invitations of God to Marymount to move to another horizon. Yet, the spirit of Christ ‘To love and to serve’ and the school motto ‘The Lord is my light’ always remain constant as well as our core.
Guided by the spirituality of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the vision and mission of Marymount Education is to form our students to be persons with Wisdom, Care, Love, Compassion, persons for others and with others, with readiness to assume leadership. Education is a process of a ‘whole-person’ formation, through which our students acquire self-knowledge and relationship skills, cultivate intellectual vigor and critical thinking, foster an attitude of openness to new ideas and initiatives, engage in reflection on learning and life experiences, and pursuit of excellence (MAGIS). We consider a comprehensive values education programmes that emphasize the core values of Reverence, Gratitude, Compassion, Integrity, Perseverance, Wisdom as salient to help students to integrate knowing, doing and being. When discerning the signs of the times and facing the advances in information technology and artificial intelligence here and now, we see a more urgent and universal need to cultivate integrity, ethical leadership, and discerning decision making for the ‘common good’ and the ‘greater good’. We hope that through our various initiatives, our students will further develop as ‘spiritually grounded’, positive, resilient, and socially responsible leaders with justice and love, collaborative and adaptive in contribution to our society, our Mother Country and the global world.
Our centenary celebrations are opportunities for alumnae of different generations, our school management, principals, teachers,
parents and students to come together as one community to honour and continue our legacy. Our gratitude to Ms. Barbara Chan and Ms. Asha Sharma, the Chairpersons of MSS Centenary Preparatory Committee and various team members for your innovative ideas, events and support.
May God who started His Good Work in us bring it to perfection.

Message from Co-Chairperson, MSS & MPS Centenary Preparatory Committee
Dear Marymount Family and guests,
I am honoured to write this opening message for the launch of our new Centenary Webpage as we celebrate the most significant milestone of 100 years of academic excellence since the the founding of our Schools by the Maryknoll Sisters. We thank our dear Columban Sisters who took over sponsorship in 1978 and the Christian Life Community, our current School Sponsoring Body for accepting the invitation and taking on the responsibility of both our Primary and Secondary Schools in 1997 to continue our enduring legacy, mission and vision. We celebrate also the achievements, success and services by our alumane in different sectors of society both in Hong Kong and around the World.
In my different roles at Marymount after graduating from the Maryknoll days, I feel proud of the continued growth of our Schools supported by a dedicated teams of managers, senior management and teachers. Serving as Chairperson of our Parent Teachers Associations (“PTA”) when my daughter was still at School, I was able to grow up with my daughter and have established close bonding with the school and teachers who have remained as close friends even after their retirement. As School
Manager and thereafter continuing as legal advisor to the PTAs and the IMCs of both Schools, I am able to contribute my services to my Alma Mata. It has been a blessing to meet and have opportunities to work with a lot of fellow alumnae (both senior and junior to me) as co-founder of Marymount Professionals with our Supervisor, Dr. Éadaoin Hui. Serving as Chairperson of our 80th, 85th, 90th Annniversaries and currently Co-Chairing the Centenary brings lots of happy times, laughter and joy as we all work together to plan, brainstorm, organize and implement events whilst overcoming challenges along the way. I am most indebted to each and every member of my Committees at each Anniversary and now as we prepare for our Centenary events with a team of over 90 members comprising mostly alumnae as well as representatives from our PTAs and the Schools. We are also grateful to our Principals for attending our meetings and supporting us at each event. The Centenary Committee has been extremely busy since its establishment in 2023 with different sub committees planning and organizing a variety of events including introducing for the very first time our “MSS Rooftop Events”. Amongst our many goals, is our hope to raise funds for some of the Schools’ dream projects, details of which you will find on the fundraising page.
Our promotion team led by Francesca Lee working with her team will ensure not only timely updates of our events but also our photo gallery as well as keep everyone informed of funds raised and projects accomplished. You may also follow us on our Instagram “msscentenary_2027” & Facebook “MSS Centenary 2027”.
I hope you will find this website helpful, informative and user friendly as you explore our rich history, key milestones and most importantly our Centenary events. Stay updated, visit our page and celebrate with us!
With my warmest regards,
Asha Sharma

Message from MSS Principal
For a hundred years, our cherished motto, "The Lord is my Light," has illuminated our School’s path in guiding our future generations to become women of integrity, for and with others. As we celebrate the fine traditions and long history of our School, it is also the time to look forward with joy and hope for centuries to come.
The development of our School has always been powered by the Ignatian spirit of "Magis"— that timeless call to seek more, to do better, and to go deeper in all we do. In this spirit, we commit to and strive for "Sustainability," in which we build upon our treasured Catholic traditions while embracing the ever-changing world with innovation. Together in a strong community consisting of students, dedicated staff, supportive parents, and distinguished alumnae, a beautiful “Symphony” is composed, resonating the spirit of the School. It is through collective effort and generous contributions that we live up to our School’s mission statement in our latest School Development Plan, "Together we Grow & Glow."
Looking ahead, our Light will shine even brighter and lead even further. As we continue to nurture our students into women of Wisdom, Care, Love, and Compassion, by equipping our School with the best infrastructure and state-of-the-art facilities of the 21st Century, our young ladies will flourish and thrive. They will be empowered with a greater sense of purpose in life and a stronger sense of ownership as future-ready learners, who are ready to lead and serve in a complex world.
As we step toward this remarkable milestone, with "The Lord is my Light" as our beacon, we proudly celebrate the legacy and success of this centenary and continue to inspire each member of the Marymount community to Grow and Glow, lighting up the way for the next hundred years to come.
God Bless.

Message from MPS Principal
A century marks a significant milestone—it reflects enduring passion, strong faith, and the fulfilment of countless prayers throughout the years. Guided by our school motto, The Lord is my light, we give thanks to the Maryknoll Sisters, the Columban Sisters, and every member of our current sponsoring body, the Christian Life Community (CLC), whose committed support has made this historic celebration possible. Their collective faith, love, and commitment inspire us to uphold and carry forward a tradition of academic and spiritual excellence that defines Marymount Primary and Secondary Schools.
The legacy entrusted to us by the Maryknoll Sisters forms the very roots that anchor our school. Like deep roots nourishing a growing tree, their dedication has shaped countless generations of students, enabling them to shine brightly with the light of God’s wisdom and love. This legacy is carried on not only through traditions but also through the guiding principle of the Christian Life Community (CLC), which nurtures in our students a spirit of caring, loving and compassionate. As St. Ignatius of Loyola teaches us, “To give and not to count the cost,” our students embody this selfless spirit by being individuals for and with others, carrying forward the core values that make Marymount a loving family and a place of belonging.
On this momentous occasion, we are especially grateful for our beloved alumnae, who serve as Co-Chairpersons of the MSS Centenary Preparatory Committee. Ms. Asha Sharma and Ms. Barbara Chan, alongside a dedicated team of alumnae spanning generations, have generously offered their time and talents to bring this celebration to life. I am deeply touched by the selfless contributions of the whole team, as well as our staff from both the primary and secondary schools, whose collaborative efforts have made this centenary a heartwarming reality.
As we celebrate our centenary, let us honour our past and embrace the future with hope, guided by the wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola, “Find God in all things.” This guiding principle encourages us to nurture every child’s mind, heart, and spirit, fostering values of responsibility, gratitude, care, integrity and perseverance. By embracing whole-person development, we equip our students to face the future with resilience and compassion, preparing them to serve and lead in a complex world. May this centenary be not only a celebration of our rich heritage but also a joyful beginning to a new century of growth and grace. Together, we carry the Marymount heritage proudly into the future, confident that the seeds sown a century ago will continue to blossom abundantly.
With warmest regards,
Ms. Brenda Lo
